Week 12 : Awww Crap!

It was a beautiful day this past Sunday! So beautiful in fact that I decided to work in the garden a bit. So first of all I grabbed the youngest brat and headed to the garden center. Picked up a few flowers and some top soil. Got home and got to it. I filled a big planter with topsoil and into it transplanted a red currant bush from a broken ceramic pot. Planted the new flowers, fed and watered others. Overall made the yard look less crappy. As I was finishing I saw that broken ceramic pot and decided to break it into small pieces for future use. You know, put the shards in the bottom of other pots to help with drainage. So I picked up the pot and smashed it on the drive way. In the process driving a nice sharp piece of the pot into my left thumb.

I immediately knew that I cut it. Ran into the kitchen and stuck it under the faucet to wash the wound, thinking this was just a small cut and that a band-aid would take care of it. Then I looked at it. A band-aid wasn't going to do it, the cut went from the top of the thumb down to the first joint (about 1 inch). Awww crap!

My 11 year old had a friend over and my older boy and the hubster were out of town. By the way, can anybody tell me why is it that whenever hubby is out of town, something ALWAYS goes wrong? One time the furnace broke during a winter storm, another time the roof leaked and this time I slashed my finger! Thank goodness my in-laws live just down the street. So I had the bratling call them over. I have wonderful in-laws. MIL stayed home with the girls and FIL drove me to the emergency room. Two hours later I was home with 7 stitches and surprisingly barely any pain. MIL invited us over for dinner and I've never been so happy to accept an invite! I definitely didn't want to be cooking!

I'm surprised by how little pain there is. Tylenol works to take care of the little so overall I feel fine. The only thing that I can't do is pick up and hold objects in my left hand ... no opposable thumb functionality :( ... but otherwise I'm good! There's even an upside to being injured ... the brat does her chores without any complaint what so ever *evil eyebrow wiggle*
